According to data reported by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles and Virginia State Police, Newport News and the surrounding Hampton Roads region record thousands of traffic crashes each year. These incidents range from minor collisions to severe crashes involving life-threatening  injuries and fatalities. Injuries frequently include broken bones, spinal trauma, and injuries caused by head-on collisions, many of which require long-term medical care.
